Hey Benjamin,

Quick update following last week's Season 8 announcement.

Track Update

iRacing hasn't officially released the Season 8 track schedule yet, but one change appears confirmed: the opening round is moving from Oulton Park to Okayama. To keep things aligned, we're updating our Pre-Qualifying track to Okayama as well — so any practice time you put in will carry over directly into official sessions for rating gain.

This Week's Schedule Shift

The live coaching workshop originally scheduled for this week has been moved to next week so the sessions run in order with the season rounds — something we do every season start.

That means today's schedule looks like this:

Learning Party — today (Monday) (replaces the workshop Monday slot)

2:00 PM EDT / 8:00 PM EDT (UTC-4)

Hosted by the Almeida Crew Volunteers

Open to everyone — no Gold Membership required

Up to 2 hours per session of open practice to learn the combo of the week

Pit Party — this Friday

2:00 PM EDT / 8:00 PM EDT (UTC-4)

Coach-led session moves to next week; this one is Crew-hosted

Also open to everyone

Up to two hours of racecraft practice per session.

Open Race — This Saturday. Replace League Race

11:00 AM EDT (UTC-4)

(Starts 1 hour Practice) followed by 15 minute qualifying and 3 races.

Also open to everyone

→ Check your local times here: ARA Events Calendar — look for "Learning Party" or "Pit Party."

All these events will not only help you prepare to learn the track for pre qualifying. But also help you gain confidence to race for week 1 of Officials. Come join us so you can get ahead of everyone else who isn't prepared.

League Sign-Ups

If you haven't signed up yet, you can do so here: Season 8 League Page

If you're already signed up — expect a direct email this weekend with Pre-Qualifying details and next steps.

Want a head start? Here's the full ARA League Guide covering how everything works. If you have any questions about any of these events. Feel free to reach out via discord: http://url2276.almeidaracingacademy.com/ls/click?upn=u001…

Hey Benjamin,

Everything in racing comes down to one thing.

Four patches of rubber, each roughly the size of your hand, pressing against the track surface.

That's it. That's where understeer happens. That's where oversteer happens. That's where braking grip lives and traction control kicks in and wheel spin begins. Every technique you'll ever learn is just a way of managing what happens at those four tiny points of contact.

Most drivers never think about this. They think about lines, braking points, throttle timing. And those things matter — but they're all downstream of the contact patch.

When the front tires have too much stress and not enough grip, you understeer. When the rear tires break traction, you oversteer. When you lock a wheel under braking, you've asked more from that patch than it can give.

Once you start thinking in terms of grip — what does each tire have right now, what am I asking it to do, is that within its limits — driving starts to make sense at a completely different level.

You're not driving a car. You're managing four contact patches at 250 km/h.

The beauty of racing is expressed in your understanding of its physics.

Always have fun,

— Suellio Almeida

PS: Pre Qualifying for Season 8 of the Academy Gold League is starting early next week. After Pre Qualifying ends, Sign Ups will be closed until after the season end. Which means, next ability to sign up will be September. These Leagues Seasons we run help contribute to many students progressing from 10% rating to top 1%. But only if they take part of what we offer at the Academy.Check out the season details here

Hey Benjamin,

There's a driver in your league. Maybe on your team. Maybe just on the leaderboard.

They keep beating you. And every time you see their name above yours, something tightens in your chest.

Here's a perspective shift that changed how I coach — and how I race.

That driver is the most valuable thing in your racing environment right now.

Not because it feels good. Because it doesn't. And that discomfort is exactly what stops you from becoming complacent. Without someone faster than you in the room, the bar disappears. You stop pushing. You start thinking you've arrived.

Nicki Lauda said it best: "Winning is one thing but out of losing, I always learned more for the future."

The driver beating you is showing you exactly how much is left. They're a live measurement of your gap. They're pulling you forward whether you like it or not.

Start treating them like a gift.

Always have fun,

— Suellio AlmeidaPS: Many of our students found consistent competition by joining our league. Every league champion has became a champion because they had a rival in the league to learn from. To motivate them to get better. To practice with. Join our League and build that rivalry and see your growth skyrocket. Sign up here. Requires Gold Membership.

Hey Benjamin,

Connor Bell was 16 years old when he first started working with me.

Sim racer. No kart background. No racing family. No budget for real-life motorsport. Just a wheel, a simulator, and an obsessive desire to understand how to drive fast.

At 19, he entered his first NASCAR Canada race.

He won it.

Not against beginners. Against IndyCar pole-sitters, Daytona 500 racers, NASCAR veterans with 10, 15 years of real-world experience. On his debut. At one of the most demanding tracks in Canada.

Connor didn't get lucky. He spent years in the simulator training the right way. Not grinding laps blindly — working on specific techniques, in the right order, building real understanding of what the car is doing and why. By the time he got in a real car, the physics were already familiar. The grip, the weight transfer, the rotation — he'd felt all of it before. Just without the consequences.

The sim doesn't care if you believe it. It just works, if you use it correctly.

Connor is now a coach at the Academy. The kid who came to me as a student is now helping the next generation do exactly what he did.

There's no reason that path isn't available to you too.

Always have fun,

— Suellio AlmeidaPS: If you want to get a 1:1 session with Connor Bell, you can from our Coaching Page Here

Hey Benjamin,

You're mid-corner. The front end isn't responding. The car is pushing wide and nothing you're doing is working.

Your instinct is to add more steering.

Don't.

This is one of the most common mistakes I see, from beginners all the way to experienced drivers. And it comes from a reasonable place — if the car isn't turning enough, turn more, right?

Wrong. Here's why.

Understeer means the front tires have exceeded their grip limit. They're already being asked for more than they can give. Adding more steering angle asks even more from tires that are already overwhelmed. The result is more understeer, not less.

The solution is weight transfer. Lift slightly. Add a touch of brakes. Transfer load back to the front tires. Give them grip back. Then they can respond to the steering you're already applying.

When you understeer — less steering, more weight transfer.

It feels completely backwards. It works every time.

Always have fun,

— Suellio Almeida

Hey Benjamin,

Most drivers get this backwards.

They spend 95% of their time consuming content — watching videos, reading guides, listening to podcasts about racing technique. And 5% actually driving.

The result? They know a lot. They improve very little.

Here's the ratio that actually works: 5% learning, 95% practice.

Watch one lesson. Then go drive with that one thing in mind. Not ten things. One. Repeat it until you stop thinking about it. Until it becomes automatic. Until your hands do it without your brain getting involved.

That's the Learn — Feel — Incorporate loop. You can't skip the Feel and Incorporate steps by consuming more content. Those steps only happen in the car, with laps under your belt, with your brain slowly building the muscle memory that turns a technique into instinct.

The improvement might not feel dramatic. Most of it happens in your sleep, in the days after a good training session, as your brain quietly reorganizes what it learned.

Be patient. Drive more. Study less.

Always have fun,

— Suellio Almeida

Hey Benjamin,

I was doing a live coaching session when I noticed something.

The driver was fast. Genuinely fast — top 1% iRating, smooth inputs, good lines. But there was a pattern. Every time he approached a specific type of corner — high-speed entries with a lot of rotation available — he'd back off slightly. Just a fraction. Just enough.

I pulled up the telemetry.

He was leaving exactly 0.8 to 1.2 seconds on the table in those corners. Every lap. Consistently.

So I asked him: what are you afraid of here?

He thought about it. "Losing the rear on entry."

That was it. One specific fear, in one specific type of corner. And it was costing him a second per lap.

We spent 20 minutes doing one drill: approaching those corners with progressively more trail braking, deliberately inducing rotation, learning exactly where the rear would step out and where it wouldn't. Not to be brave. To build a map. Spin? Fine. It's a simulator. You can just reset.

The counterintuitive part of this new technique is that the car will tend to oversteer the most at the beginning of turn-in. That's where it feels scary and immediate — because the car can actually spin very fast if you don't expect it. But literally half a second after that initial turn in, the tendency to slide decreases, and the tendency to understeer increases as the car gets slower, deeper into the corner, with less trail braking and with less engine braking. The tools that make the car rotate the most fade away. That's where you can actually start forcing the car more.

The solution for him was to lose the fear of getting that little initial snap. Instead of avoiding it, we started controlling it. Then, when he got super peaceful with that motion, the rest was EZ.

By the end of the session, the fear was gone. Not because he suppressed it — because he understood it. He knew exactly what caused the oversteer and exactly how to manage it. The unknown became known.

His next lap was 1.1 seconds faster. He was already 4000 iRating before that session.

Fear in racing is almost always fear of the unknown. The solution isn't courage. It's knowledge.

Always have fun,

— Suellio Almeida

Hey Benjamin,

Kevin was one of the most precise drivers I'd coached.

Formula Ford specialist. Smooth, consistent, technically excellent. And then he stepped into a Formula 4 — a car with real aerodynamic downforce — and suddenly he was over a second off the pace.

He was confused. The car should have been easier to drive. More grip. More stability. Why was he slower?

I watched a few laps and I could see it immediately.

He was driving the Formula 4 like a Formula Ford. Light braking, careful entries, very controlled inputs — all the things that work perfectly in a car with no downforce. But in a high-downforce car, those same behaviors leave enormous lap time on the table.

In a low-downforce car, the pedals do most of the rotation work, especially on corner entry. In a high-downforce car, the downforce itself pushes the car into the track with such force that you can be more aggressive with your inputs. The car will rotate without as much help from the brakes. You just need to trust it and commit.

Kevin was fighting the car trying to create rotation that the car was already offering him for free.

Twenty minutes of coaching later — explaining exactly why the downforce changed the physics, and what to do differently — he found over a second per lap.

Same driver. Same track. Different understanding. Faster trail braking, more trust on the steering alone. Wider entries, more U-shaped lines, faster turn-ins. Boom. 1s faster. He was surprised with how much more grip was available to him.

Every car has its own language. The job is to learn it fast.

Always have fun,

— Suellio Almeida

Hey Benjamin,

If there's one technique I keep coming back to with every student, at every level, it's this: light hands.

Here's what happens when you grip the wheel too tightly: you stop feeling the car. Your hands are so tense that the feedback from the tires — the tiny vibrations, the subtle changes in resistance on the steering — can't reach your brain. You're driving blind through your palms.

Light hands means staying sensitive. Firm enough to control the car, loose enough to feel it. The grip pattern I teach is: light on turn-in while trail braking, firmer through mid-corner, light again on exit as you unwind and your car starts dancing on power.

When your hands are light, you can make micro-adjustments based on what the car is actually telling you. You become reactive in the right way — not catching slides dramatically, but sensing them before they happen and adjusting by fractions.

After you learn this, you can finally understand the difference between Passive and Active Countersteer. These two techniques — and being able to choose between them — make you look like a professional driver already, because people notice it. But your lap times also confirm it.

"Dancing with the car" is the phrase I use. You can't dance with a partner if you're strangling them.

Relax your grip. The car has a lot to tell you.

Always have fun,

— Suellio Almeida

Hey Benjamin,

Every driver hits a plateau.

You were improving, lap after lap, week after week. Then one day — nothing. The times stop dropping. You try everything and nothing works. You start wondering if you've reached your ceiling.

You haven't.

Here's what's actually happening: the easy gains are gone. The things you could fix with basic awareness — you've fixed them. Now you need to go to the next level of technique, and that requires a different kind of physics understanding.

The plateau isn't a wall. It's a door. But you need the right key.

Usually the key is something specific. A technique you've been avoiding. A habit so ingrained you don't even notice it anymore. A concept you understood intellectually but never truly felt.

I've watched drivers plateau for months, sometimes years — then find two seconds in a single session after one idea clicked.

The gap to your next level is smaller than you think. But you can't bridge it by doing more of what already stopped working.

What's the one thing you keep avoiding? If you don't know what it is, join us.

Always have fun,

— Suellio AlmeidaPS: Today, some of the Almeida Crew and staff are running a "Learning Party" that is free to join. Check out the events page and our discord on how & when to join if you want to see how we do things.

Hey Benjamin,

Most drivers lose battles not because they're slow.

They lose them because they're not thinking far enough ahead.

In 2024, I won the Radical North America Championship. And looking back at the races that decided it, the margin didn't come from outbraking anyone or finding grip no one else had.

It came from positioning. From seeing situations develop three, four, five seconds before they happened and being in the right place when they did.

Racecraft is about prediction. It's about thinking about your race and your opponents' moves, at the same time.

When you're behind two cars fighting for position, the question isn't "how do I get past both of them right now?" The question is "what is most likely to happen in the next five seconds, and where do I need to be when it does?"

If they go side by side into a slow corner, they will both lose time on exit. If you have enough room to use all the track on entry, mid-corner and exit behind them, you can drive past both after. No contact, no drama, no risk.

But that only works if you saw it coming earlier.

I study my opponents as I'm racing them. Where they are most likely to attack or defend, and even if not studying them, I study the track for the most important passing spots.

The drivers who are always in the right place at the right time aren't lucky. They're prepared.

Always have fun,

— Suellio Almeida

<!--outseta-wrapper:content-start-->Lap guides are everywhere. Every fast driver on YouTube (and some slow ones) showing you exactly where they brake, what gear they use, what line they take.

They're useful. But they have a serious problem.

A fast lap is the output of a thousand decisions happening on the subconscious. The driver showing you the lap isn't showing you how they think — they're showing you the result of how they think. And if you just try to copy the result without understanding what's behind it, you'll get close but never there.

Here's what happens when you imitate without understanding: you copy the braking point but not the trail braking technique and the reasoning behind it. You copy the line but not the weight transfer that makes it work. You get 80% of the lap right and the remaining 20% stays frustratingly out of reach.

The better approach: watch the lap guide to understand the shape of the corner. Then go figure out the physics yourself. Why does he brake there? What is the car doing on entry? Why does he position the car that way at turn-in?

Build the understanding, not just the habit.

Autonomy is faster than imitation, every time. This is my life's purpose as a racing coach.

Always have fun,

CHAMPIONS!!! Our Almeida Racing Academy student YH Tang is officially the Ferrari Challenge Japan 2026 Champion! We worked together during the entire season, with intensive simulator practice before the racing events. YH joined as a Platinum Member, watched all our online courses, then we worked 1-1 between rounds. I also traveled to Japan for all rounds and coached him in person, took setup and strategy decisions, and helped him stay in the flow state. It worked. He started his first round being 6 seconds off the pace. On the second round, he won the race. Then, he won again, and again, and again. This is the strongest proof that proper simulator practice with the proper method transfers 100% to real life. Thank you for your trust in the Almeida Racing Academy!- Suellio AlmeidaPS: We're opening 10 Platinum spots this week. Once they're gone, they're gone. Get Personalized Mentorship

<!--outseta-wrapper:content-start-->One of my students was preparing for his first real-life event in a GT4 car.

Fast, serious, and terrified of one specific type of corner — high-speed, long radius, where you commit fully and can't see the exit yet when you turn in.

The ones that separate drivers from dentists.

When drivers are afraid of high-speed corners they do something counterintuitive — they actually increase their risk without realising it. They hesitate. They make small, tentative inputs. The car gets unsettled by the lack of commitment, not by the speed. A car driven with confidence through a high-speed corner is more stable than one driven with doubt.

We started in the simulator. And I did something I always do when the stakes are high: I worked backwards from worst case.

I put him in those corners at race pace and we talked through exactly what happens if things go wrong. What does oversteer feel like here? What's the correction? What input causes the problem and what input prevents it?

We didn't avoid the scary scenario. We rehearsed it until it was boring.

By the time he got on the real track, the worst case wasn't unknown anymore. He'd been there. Virtually, but he'd been there. His brain had already filed it under "situation I've handled" rather than "situation I'm afraid of."

He found a second and a half per lap on his first real session and became dramatically more consistent than experienced drivers who'd done that track before.

Confidence in racing doesn't come from bravery. It comes from preparation.

In his case, the trust came from mid-corner half-throttle induced understeer for a safe predictable platform. Which is very counterintuitive when you're scared of the speed you're carrying.

Always have fun,

<!--outseta-wrapper:content-start-->The moment you get back on the throttle is the moment you set your minimum speed point.

That's the slowest you'll go in that corner. Maximum steering angle, maximum rotation, minimum speed.

Here's the mistake most drivers make on exit: as the car gains speed, they don't open the steering smoothly. They hold it too long and get into understeer and/or into a snap oversteer.

The correct exit is always an opening spiral. You get back on power, you hold or even add slightly more steering for a fraction of a second, then as the car accelerates and the arc naturally wants to open, you should relax your hands and guide it wide to the edge of the track.

You don't force the exit. You guide it. But more than anything, you let the car guide you. Preferably with the rear tires.

The car wants to go wide as it gains speed — that's physics working in your favour. Your job is to let it happen smoothly, letting the car use all the track on exit, while staying committed to the throttle the whole time.

Get back on power. Hold the steering for just a bit. Then let the spiral open.

Always have fun,

Hey Benjamin,

A few weeks ago, I started the "Roast my lap" event that is still ongoing but now I want to expand it to involve a couple features of the Academy: the Consistency Challenges and the 20 Trials.

The Consistency Challenges set your baseline — the starting point for your sim racing journey and Academy experience. The Trials are different. My coaches and I built them to test your true car handling form. So far, only a handful of students have finished them with even a Bronze.

I want to change that.

Send me your lap — from either one — and I'll review it live. Struggling with a challenge? Can't get a medal at all? Sitting on Bronze or Silver and can't find the next step up? That's exactly what I want to see. The best ones become Case Studies attached to the lesson, so the whole Academy can learn from the same mistakes you're working through.

Your driving doesn't need to be good. That's not the point. The point is finding what's actually slowing you down.

How to Submit Videos

<!--[if mso]><![endif]-->

Not a Gold Member? You can still submit — Consistency Challenge 1 or 2, or Trials 1–5 — Trials 6–20 are Gold only.I plan to start reviewing these laps every Saturday live at around 2PM EDT (6 PM GMT) starting this Saturday when I am not traveling for real life coaching or racing.

Weekly Challenges aren't part of this. Not yet, anyway.

Start recording.

Always have fun,

<!--outseta-wrapper:content-start-->One of the most underrated performance killers in sim racing is practicing alone.

Not because solo practice is useless — it's necessary. But because it has a blind spot: you're always your own reference point.

When you practice alone, "fast" means faster than you were yesterday. "Good" means better than your last session. The bar is internal, and internal bars are easy to move without noticing.

The moment you race with other people, everything changes.

You find out where you're actually losing time. You discover that the corner you thought was your strength is where everyone passes you. You realize your braking is inconsistent because in a pack, small errors get amplified immediately.

Other drivers are live telemetry for your weak points.

The community we've built at the Academy — 12,000 members, Pit Parties, organised leagues — exists because we've seen what happens when drivers stop practicing alone and start racing together. The improvement accelerates. Always.

Find people to race with. Regularly. It's not just more fun. It's faster.

A quick schedule update.

We checked with you in Discord first. Here's what's changing, starting this week:

Pit Party moving from Fridays → Thursdays

Same times: 2PM & 8PM EDT (18:00 & 00:00 UTC).\

This gives us a much better shot at having Coach Connor Bell join — his real NASCAR schedule kept clashing with Fridays.

Flash Mob moving from Sunday → Fridays

New time 2PM & 8PM EDT (18:00 & 00:00 UTC).

Previously Sundays at 11AM CDT. Still free for everyone.

Note: the 8PM EDT session falls after midnight UTC — it'll show up a day later for anyone in Europe.

Everything else stays the same: Workshops, Learning Parties, Weekly Challenge, and League race. Can check new events schedule here: http://url2276.almeidaracingacademy.com/ls/click?upn=u001…

— The Almeida Racing Academy Team

P.S. One more thing coming soon: a new Porsche Cup league, built for EU time zones. Another announcement will be made with full details on this. But for now, if you are interested in the PCUP League, go to the discord and chat in the PCUP League channel.

<!--outseta-wrapper:content-start-->I set a challenge inside the Academy. The goal was simple: hit a specific lap time ten times in a row.

I expected most drivers to beat it in a few hours.

Some of them were still working on it after twenty.

The car is a Ford Legends at Tsukuba — deliberately chosen because it's oversteery, powerful for its weight, and completely unforgiving of inconsistency. If your inputs aren't precise and repeatable, the car will find and expose every mistake.

What I actually test isn't raw speed. It's control over rotation.

The drivers who beat the challenge quickly had something in common: they understood that consistency doesn't come from going fast. It comes from knowing exactly how much you can push the car's rotation in each type of corner without losing control.

The drivers who struggled were trying to be fast first and consistent second. Wrong order.

Consistency is the foundation. Speed is built on top of it.

The challenge forced drivers to learn two specific skills: inducing understeer — using your inputs to intentionally reduce front grip in predictable ways — and inducing oversteer — using pedals and steering together to create controlled rotation. Once they understood both, the car became predictable. And a predictable car is a fast car.

You can't drive consistently what you don't understand.

Try this challenge. It's in the free Level 1 course. You'll be surprised with how much it can tell about your own driving.

Always have fun,

<!--outseta-wrapper:content-start-->Here's a physics fact that sounds strange at first: tires only generate maximum grip when they're sliding slightly.

Not sliding out of control. Sliding by a small, controlled amount — one to ten degrees depending on the car and road type, and up to even more degrees if off-road.

That small slide — the tire deforming against the track surface, finding friction — is the mechanism that creates lateral force. Without it, you can't turn at speed. The tire needs to work to grip.

This is why trying too hard often produces the opposite of what you want.

When you add too much steering, you push the front tires past their optimal slip angle. They generate less grip, not more. When you overload the rear, you push it past its window too. The car spins — not because you went too fast, but because you asked for too much from a tire that was already at its limit.

The art of fast driving is keeping all four tires in their optimal slip angle window — just enough slide to generate maximum lateral force, not so much that the grip disappears.

Everything else is just details.

Always have fun,

<!--outseta-wrapper:content-start-->Watch a fast driver save a big oversteer moment and it looks like superhuman reflexes.

It isn't.

Their reaction time isn't faster than yours. What's faster is their prediction.

By the time a fast driver's hands are moving to catch a slide, they already knew it was coming. Not consciously — their brain built a model of the situation from hundreds of similar moments. The car loading up in a certain way, the throttle at a certain percentage, the rear just starting to feel light. The brain said: something is more likely to happen here.

The correction isn't only reactive. It was ready to be done.

This is why experience matters so much in racing — not because more experienced drivers have better reflexes, but because they've been in more situations. Their prediction engine is richer. They can read ten things ahead from one small signal.

You build this by deliberately experiencing the limit. By understanding exactly what causes a slide and what corrects it. By spending time at the edge of control, not avoiding it.

The more situations you've been in, the more you can see the future.

That's the Almeida Method.

Always have fun,

<!--outseta-wrapper:content-start-->One of my students had a real-life race coming up at a track he'd never visited.

No test day. No practice session on the real circuit beforehand. Just the race weekend itself — qualifying and then straight into the race.

Most drivers in that situation show up nervous, spend qualifying learning the track, and lose the whole weekend to the learning curve.

He did something different. He spent three weeks in the simulator doing nothing but that track, in that car, at race pace. Not casually — structured sessions, specific techniques, corner by corner analysis.

By the time he arrived at the real circuit, he already knew it. Not perfectly — the grip levels were different, the bumps surprised him, the braking points needed small adjustments. But the shape of every corner, the rotation available at each apex, the commitment required on the high-speed sections — all of that was already in his muscle memory.

He qualified on the front row.

This is the correct use of the simulator. Not to memorise reference points — those will shift. Not to set fast lap times — those don't transfer. To build the physical understanding of what the car needs to do in each corner so deeply that when reality is slightly different, your brain can adapt in minutes instead of days.

The sim doesn't replace the real thing. It compresses the learning curve so dramatically that when you get there, you're already 50 laps ahead of everyone else.

Always have fun,

<!--outseta-wrapper:content-start-->Most beginners brake in a straight line, release completely, then turn in. Clean separation between braking and cornering.

Trail braking says: don't release completely. Carry a small amount of brake pressure into the corner, tapering it off as you add steering.

Why does this matter?

Two reasons. First, it extends your braking zone slightly — you can brake a fraction later because you're not releasing all at once. Second, and more importantly, it uses weight transfer to rotate the car. The braking load on the front tires creates grip. As you turn in and taper the brakes, that load helps the car rotate toward the apex.

You're transitioning the tire from deceleration duty to rotation duty in a smooth, controlled way. That transition is what prevents understeer mid-corner.

When trail braking works correctly, the car feels light on initial turn-in and eager to rotate. It's easy to lose the rear on turn-in. That's why you build it slowly, starting with tiny amounts and feeling the car's response.

Remember to always keep the steering busy during this process. A lot of people trail brake and forget to steer. Trail braking with no steering as you get deep into the corner is... not trail braking, really.

Always have fun,

<!--outseta-wrapper:content-start-->This isn't what most people think of when they think about going faster. But I'm going to say it anyway.

Sleep is one of the most powerful performance tools you have.

Here's why: the improvement you make in a training session doesn't actually happen only during the session. It happens in the hours and days after — when your brain consolidates the new patterns, strengthens the neural pathways you were building, and integrates what you learned into long-term muscle memory.

Cut your sleep and you cut your improvement rate. Not a little — significantly.

I've watched drivers have brilliant sessions, stay up late reviewing footage, do another session the next day exhausted, and wonder why nothing is sticking. They're sabotaging the consolidation process before it can finish.

Train well. Then sleep well. Then drive again.

The work you do in the simulator is only half the equation. The other half happens while you're unconscious.

Give your brain the time it needs.

Always have fun,

<!--outseta-wrapper:content-start-->I once spent two hours breaking down a single lap in a Mazda MX-5.

Not because it was a particularly exotic car, or a famous track. Because a well-driven lap in a simple car teaches you more about technique than a fast lap in a powerful one.

Less downforce. Less grip. Every input visible in the data. Nowhere to hide.

Here's what I found going through it corner by corner.

The fastest sections weren't the ones where the driver braked latest. They were the ones where the driver's speed and rotation at mid-corner was highest. Entry was used as a tool to set up the correct mid-corner rotation — not as the place to find time.

On compound corners — two corners connected by a short section — the driver consistently sacrificed the exit of the first corner to carry better speed into the second. But not always. Only when the second corner led to a long straight. Priority always goes to what comes after, not what's happening now.

On the high-speed sections, the inputs were barely visible. Light steering. Progressive throttle. The car was on the limit but it looked effortless. Neural efficiency at work — the driver wasn't trying hard. They were precise.

And throughout the whole lap, the eyes were always further ahead than the car. Already looking at the next corner while still managing the current one.

One lap. Infinite lessons.

This lap is available on YouTube. Just search for "How to Achieve a Perfect Lap in Racing".

Always have fun,
