Hey Benjamin,

Quick update following last week's Season 8 announcement.

Track Update

iRacing hasn't officially released the Season 8 track schedule yet, but one change appears confirmed: the opening round is moving from Oulton Park to Okayama. To keep things aligned, we're updating our Pre-Qualifying track to Okayama as well — so any practice time you put in will carry over directly into official sessions for rating gain.

This Week's Schedule Shift

The live coaching workshop originally scheduled for this week has been moved to next week so the sessions run in order with the season rounds — something we do every season start.

That means today's schedule looks like this:

Learning Party — today (Monday) (replaces the workshop Monday slot)

2:00 PM EDT / 8:00 PM EDT (UTC-4)

Hosted by the Almeida Crew Volunteers

Open to everyone — no Gold Membership required

Up to 2 hours per session of open practice to learn the combo of the week

Pit Party — this Friday

2:00 PM EDT / 8:00 PM EDT (UTC-4)

Coach-led session moves to next week; this one is Crew-hosted

Also open to everyone

Up to two hours of racecraft practice per session.

Open Race — This Saturday. Replace League Race

11:00 AM EDT (UTC-4)

(Starts 1 hour Practice) followed by 15 minute qualifying and 3 races.

Also open to everyone

→ Check your local times here: ARA Events Calendar — look for "Learning Party" or "Pit Party."

All these events will not only help you prepare to learn the track for pre qualifying. But also help you gain confidence to race for week 1 of Officials. Come join us so you can get ahead of everyone else who isn't prepared.

League Sign-Ups

If you haven't signed up yet, you can do so here: Season 8 League Page

If you're already signed up — expect a direct email this weekend with Pre-Qualifying details and next steps.

Want a head start? Here's the full ARA League Guide covering how everything works. If you have any questions about any of these events. Feel free to reach out via discord: http://url2276.almeidaracingacademy.com/ls/click?upn=u001…

Hey Benjamin,

Everything in racing comes down to one thing.

Four patches of rubber, each roughly the size of your hand, pressing against the track surface.

That's it. That's where understeer happens. That's where oversteer happens. That's where braking grip lives and traction control kicks in and wheel spin begins. Every technique you'll ever learn is just a way of managing what happens at those four tiny points of contact.

Most drivers never think about this. They think about lines, braking points, throttle timing. And those things matter — but they're all downstream of the contact patch.

When the front tires have too much stress and not enough grip, you understeer. When the rear tires break traction, you oversteer. When you lock a wheel under braking, you've asked more from that patch than it can give.

Once you start thinking in terms of grip — what does each tire have right now, what am I asking it to do, is that within its limits — driving starts to make sense at a completely different level.

You're not driving a car. You're managing four contact patches at 250 km/h.

The beauty of racing is expressed in your understanding of its physics.

Always have fun,

— Suellio Almeida

PS: Pre Qualifying for Season 8 of the Academy Gold League is starting early next week. After Pre Qualifying ends, Sign Ups will be closed until after the season end. Which means, next ability to sign up will be September. These Leagues Seasons we run help contribute to many students progressing from 10% rating to top 1%. But only if they take part of what we offer at the Academy.Check out the season details here

Hey Benjamin,

There's a driver in your league. Maybe on your team. Maybe just on the leaderboard.

They keep beating you. And every time you see their name above yours, something tightens in your chest.

Here's a perspective shift that changed how I coach — and how I race.

That driver is the most valuable thing in your racing environment right now.

Not because it feels good. Because it doesn't. And that discomfort is exactly what stops you from becoming complacent. Without someone faster than you in the room, the bar disappears. You stop pushing. You start thinking you've arrived.

Nicki Lauda said it best: "Winning is one thing but out of losing, I always learned more for the future."

The driver beating you is showing you exactly how much is left. They're a live measurement of your gap. They're pulling you forward whether you like it or not.

Start treating them like a gift.

Always have fun,

— Suellio AlmeidaPS: Many of our students found consistent competition by joining our league. Every league champion has became a champion because they had a rival in the league to learn from. To motivate them to get better. To practice with. Join our League and build that rivalry and see your growth skyrocket. Sign up here. Requires Gold Membership.

Hey Benjamin,

Connor Bell was 16 years old when he first started working with me.

Sim racer. No kart background. No racing family. No budget for real-life motorsport. Just a wheel, a simulator, and an obsessive desire to understand how to drive fast.

At 19, he entered his first NASCAR Canada race.

He won it.

Not against beginners. Against IndyCar pole-sitters, Daytona 500 racers, NASCAR veterans with 10, 15 years of real-world experience. On his debut. At one of the most demanding tracks in Canada.

Connor didn't get lucky. He spent years in the simulator training the right way. Not grinding laps blindly — working on specific techniques, in the right order, building real understanding of what the car is doing and why. By the time he got in a real car, the physics were already familiar. The grip, the weight transfer, the rotation — he'd felt all of it before. Just without the consequences.

The sim doesn't care if you believe it. It just works, if you use it correctly.

Connor is now a coach at the Academy. The kid who came to me as a student is now helping the next generation do exactly what he did.

There's no reason that path isn't available to you too.

Always have fun,

— Suellio AlmeidaPS: If you want to get a 1:1 session with Connor Bell, you can from our Coaching Page Here

Hey Benjamin,

You're mid-corner. The front end isn't responding. The car is pushing wide and nothing you're doing is working.

Your instinct is to add more steering.

Don't.

This is one of the most common mistakes I see, from beginners all the way to experienced drivers. And it comes from a reasonable place — if the car isn't turning enough, turn more, right?

Wrong. Here's why.

Understeer means the front tires have exceeded their grip limit. They're already being asked for more than they can give. Adding more steering angle asks even more from tires that are already overwhelmed. The result is more understeer, not less.

The solution is weight transfer. Lift slightly. Add a touch of brakes. Transfer load back to the front tires. Give them grip back. Then they can respond to the steering you're already applying.

When you understeer — less steering, more weight transfer.

It feels completely backwards. It works every time.

Always have fun,

— Suellio Almeida

Hey Benjamin,

Most drivers get this backwards.

They spend 95% of their time consuming content — watching videos, reading guides, listening to podcasts about racing technique. And 5% actually driving.

The result? They know a lot. They improve very little.

Here's the ratio that actually works: 5% learning, 95% practice.

Watch one lesson. Then go drive with that one thing in mind. Not ten things. One. Repeat it until you stop thinking about it. Until it becomes automatic. Until your hands do it without your brain getting involved.

That's the Learn — Feel — Incorporate loop. You can't skip the Feel and Incorporate steps by consuming more content. Those steps only happen in the car, with laps under your belt, with your brain slowly building the muscle memory that turns a technique into instinct.

The improvement might not feel dramatic. Most of it happens in your sleep, in the days after a good training session, as your brain quietly reorganizes what it learned.

Be patient. Drive more. Study less.

Always have fun,

— Suellio Almeida

Hey Benjamin,

I was doing a live coaching session when I noticed something.

The driver was fast. Genuinely fast — top 1% iRating, smooth inputs, good lines. But there was a pattern. Every time he approached a specific type of corner — high-speed entries with a lot of rotation available — he'd back off slightly. Just a fraction. Just enough.

I pulled up the telemetry.

He was leaving exactly 0.8 to 1.2 seconds on the table in those corners. Every lap. Consistently.

So I asked him: what are you afraid of here?

He thought about it. "Losing the rear on entry."

That was it. One specific fear, in one specific type of corner. And it was costing him a second per lap.

We spent 20 minutes doing one drill: approaching those corners with progressively more trail braking, deliberately inducing rotation, learning exactly where the rear would step out and where it wouldn't. Not to be brave. To build a map. Spin? Fine. It's a simulator. You can just reset.

The counterintuitive part of this new technique is that the car will tend to oversteer the most at the beginning of turn-in. That's where it feels scary and immediate — because the car can actually spin very fast if you don't expect it. But literally half a second after that initial turn in, the tendency to slide decreases, and the tendency to understeer increases as the car gets slower, deeper into the corner, with less trail braking and with less engine braking. The tools that make the car rotate the most fade away. That's where you can actually start forcing the car more.

The solution for him was to lose the fear of getting that little initial snap. Instead of avoiding it, we started controlling it. Then, when he got super peaceful with that motion, the rest was EZ.

By the end of the session, the fear was gone. Not because he suppressed it — because he understood it. He knew exactly what caused the oversteer and exactly how to manage it. The unknown became known.

His next lap was 1.1 seconds faster. He was already 4000 iRating before that session.

Fear in racing is almost always fear of the unknown. The solution isn't courage. It's knowledge.

Always have fun,

— Suellio Almeida

Hey Benjamin,

Kevin was one of the most precise drivers I'd coached.

Formula Ford specialist. Smooth, consistent, technically excellent. And then he stepped into a Formula 4 — a car with real aerodynamic downforce — and suddenly he was over a second off the pace.

He was confused. The car should have been easier to drive. More grip. More stability. Why was he slower?

I watched a few laps and I could see it immediately.

He was driving the Formula 4 like a Formula Ford. Light braking, careful entries, very controlled inputs — all the things that work perfectly in a car with no downforce. But in a high-downforce car, those same behaviors leave enormous lap time on the table.

In a low-downforce car, the pedals do most of the rotation work, especially on corner entry. In a high-downforce car, the downforce itself pushes the car into the track with such force that you can be more aggressive with your inputs. The car will rotate without as much help from the brakes. You just need to trust it and commit.

Kevin was fighting the car trying to create rotation that the car was already offering him for free.

Twenty minutes of coaching later — explaining exactly why the downforce changed the physics, and what to do differently — he found over a second per lap.

Same driver. Same track. Different understanding. Faster trail braking, more trust on the steering alone. Wider entries, more U-shaped lines, faster turn-ins. Boom. 1s faster. He was surprised with how much more grip was available to him.

Every car has its own language. The job is to learn it fast.

Always have fun,

— Suellio Almeida

Hey Benjamin,

If there's one technique I keep coming back to with every student, at every level, it's this: light hands.

Here's what happens when you grip the wheel too tightly: you stop feeling the car. Your hands are so tense that the feedback from the tires — the tiny vibrations, the subtle changes in resistance on the steering — can't reach your brain. You're driving blind through your palms.

Light hands means staying sensitive. Firm enough to control the car, loose enough to feel it. The grip pattern I teach is: light on turn-in while trail braking, firmer through mid-corner, light again on exit as you unwind and your car starts dancing on power.

When your hands are light, you can make micro-adjustments based on what the car is actually telling you. You become reactive in the right way — not catching slides dramatically, but sensing them before they happen and adjusting by fractions.

After you learn this, you can finally understand the difference between Passive and Active Countersteer. These two techniques — and being able to choose between them — make you look like a professional driver already, because people notice it. But your lap times also confirm it.

"Dancing with the car" is the phrase I use. You can't dance with a partner if you're strangling them.

Relax your grip. The car has a lot to tell you.

Always have fun,

— Suellio Almeida
