Desire, aversion,

familiar parts of being human, yet in meditation, they can feel

like unwelcome intrusions. In Obstacles as Teachers

( https://ablink.news.wakingup.com/ls/click?upn=u001.WEm8tn… ), a

new series, Tuere Sala offers a different way to understand them.

Instead of trying to avoid these states—known in Buddhism

as the five hindrances—we can learn to turn toward them, to use

them. Then, says Sala, the very experiences that seem to disrupt

our practice become guides to greater patience, resilience, and

self-awareness.

Travel can do more than merely expose us to new places.

Some journeys leave us with stories. Others leave us changed.

What separates one from the other has little to do with how far

we go, or even where, and much more to do with the spirit in

which we travel.

In his Waking Up series, The Pilgrim's Way

Pico Iyer explores the quality that transforms travel into

something deeper. We discover how stillness, clarity, and, above

all, attention can make every journey an act of self-discovery.

In the third session, Land of Earth and Sky

we cross the open landscapes of Mongolia, where vast spaces clear

the mind. In the seventh, The Quiet Within

In the second

installment of The Science of Flourishing

Scott Barry Kaufman asks us to consider the interests, ideals,

and strengths that make each of us distinct. The paradox, he

suggests, is that by embracing our individuality, we’re better

able to move beyond it: to connect more deeply with others, and

to become absorbed in something greater than ourselves.

Life can feel like

an endless to-do list. There are always more books to read,

skills to learn, and tasks to accomplish than any of us will ever

have time for. Productivity systems can help. But too often, they

add to the very sense of overwhelm they’re meant to relieve.

In The 333 Technique

( https://ablink.news.wakingup.com/ls/click?upn=u001.WEm8tn… ), a

session from his series You Are Here, Oliver Burkeman shows us

how to build a productivity system that acknowledges our

limitations, and shares the deceptively simple one he uses each

day. We learn why our plans shouldn’t try to capture everything,

and why loose structure works better than too little or too much.

It isn’t about trying to do everything, but about accepting that

we never will—and doing what matters anyway.

A new place to see how you’ve been using the app.

--------------------------------

Introducing Profile & Trends

--------------------------------

You can now find a new Profile tab in Waking Up, at the

bottom of your home screen. It’s a place to see how you’ve been

spending your time across the app.

Profile gives you an overview of your activity from past weeks

and the teachers and sections you listen to most. Your username,

membership details, and total practice minutes have also moved

here from the More tab.

Together, these features offer a new way to look back on how

you’ve been using Waking Up.

The trends in Profile, however, are not a measure of your

practice. They're simply a window into your activity—one that can

help you review your habits, reflect on what has resonated, and

decide what to explore next.

“There are many reasons to meditate,” says Sam Harris,

“but they tend to fall into two basic categories.”

Meditation can help us live better. That is, it can help us

experience less anxiety and more love. It can improve our

relationships. It can make us more sane and ethical.

Meditation can also

help us understand what is true about our own minds. That is, it

can help us recognize the nature of our moment-to-moment

experience—and of consciousness itself.

These motivations might seem fundamentally different, but in Two

Reasons to Meditate

( https://ablink.news.wakingup.com/ls/click?upn=u001.WEm8tn… ), a

new session, Sam explains why they’re ultimately aspects of the

same project.
